Comment: I've been wanting to read this book for a while. I met Dave Eggers briefly at a lecture in SF and would have loved to have him sign a hard copy that they were selling there, but I didn't have any cash on me. Such a missed opportunity! The paper back version was recently released and as soon as I finished Atlas Shrugged (last night), I couldn't wait to pick up a copy. It is the autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng, a lostboy refugee from Sudan who eventually found his way to America. After traveling around and telling his story, he was introduced to Dave Eggers who agreed to put his stories in a book to reach a larger audience. All of the proceeds from the book go to Valentino who is actively helping Sudanese refugees.

Comment: I used to always have a pocket bible in my bag while I was riding. It was great to have when I stopped off at the Golden Gate Bridge on morning rides and just knowing that it was with me at all times. I also had several translations in my library to cross reference when something didn't make sense. I've been in Chicago now for 4 months, and without my Bible. I'm not sure why it wasn't one of the first things I rebought, it just wasn't. The "verse of the day" widget on my laptop is hardly sufficient enough to feed me, but somehow I'd rationalized to myself that it was enough. It wasn't, but now I'm equipped.

i visited your blog via murketing.com. i didn't expect to see the entry about the bible. perhaps i'm too cynical, but it was refreshing to see that entry.

the idea of your blog is refreshing, too. very nice idea.

take care - allen
